Africa Safari 8 Days the Okavango Delta is one of the world’s largest inland water systems. Its headwaters start in Angola’s western highlands, with numerous tributaries joining to form the Cubango River.
Flows through Namibia (called the Kavango) and finally enters Botswana, where it is then called the Okavango. Millions of years ago the Okavango river use to flow into a large inland lake called Lake Makgadikgadi.
Day 1: Fly from Maun or Kasane to Okavango delta
After breakfast you will fly to Okavango Delta. Okavango Delta is about 15 000 square kilometers in size in the sands of the Kalahari. Okavango is called a swamp, but its waters are clear. In good years, a fraction may remain to flood Lake Ngami in the south and feed the Boteti River, which runs into Lake Xau in the west and eventually into the huge depression of the Makgadikgadi Pan. The vegetation includes groves of wild date palm, papyrus, forest and lagoons covered with floating water lilies where you will spot more than 400 species of birds and about 200,000 large mammals. On arrival in the afternoon explore the surrounding Okavango channels by motorboat, where you will spot various animals Hippos, Nile crocodile. You might spot various water birds too. Day 2: Game Drives
Today you will have a full day of game viewing. You will spot birds like the African Fish Eagle, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Crested Crane, Lilac-breasted Roller, Hammerkop, Ostrich, and Sacred Ibis. And various animals like buffaloes, lechwe, Chobe bushbuck, African Bush Elephant, Tsessebe, Sitatunga, Blue Wildebeest, Giraffe, Nile crocodile, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Hyena, Greater Kudu, Sable Antelope, Black Rhinoceros, White Rhinoceros, Plains Zebra, Warthog and Chacma Baboon, mongoose, spotted genets, monkeys, bush babies, wild dog among others. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3 and 4: Savute
Transfer to Savute National Park which is 5,000 kms squared in size and is situated in the southern stretch of Botswana`s Chobe National Park. Savuti is home to many animals and about 450 bird species which live in the savannahs and rolling grasslands. On arrival you will go for game viewing and may spot animals like impala, kudu giraffe, elephant, zebra, tsessebe, roan, sable, wildebeest, buffalo, waterbuck, elephant, warthog, eland, lion, hyena, jackal, bat-eared fox, cheetah, wild dog and White rhino, you may also spot birds like Pratincole, Carmine Bee-eaters, visiting migrant birds such as Pratincole and Carmine Bee-eaters, fish eagles, Little quelea finches, large secretary birds, kori bustards and Abdim’s Storks. Dinner and overnight at the lodge
Day 5: Linyanti Reserve
Breakfast and connect to Linyanti Reserve which is located to the west of the Savute marsh area of the Chobe National Park. It covers an area of 275 000 acres (111 288 hectares). With the Savuti Channel flowing through the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, this is one of Botswana’s best wildlife viewing areas.It is bordered by the Linyanti River in the north and the Chobe National Park in the east. It is fed by the Kwando River and the Linyanti Swamp is the heart of the reserve and is a home to over 300 species of birds and many animals. On arrival you will go for a game drive where you will spot animals like Elephants, antelope, lion, black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox, tsessebe, kudu, impala, giraffe, zebra, hyena, cheetah, Buffalo, wild dog, serval cat, Bat-eared foxes , hippos, crocodiles and baboon troops later take a boat from Duma Tau and Kings pool which is quite good. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 6 and 7: Chobe National Park
Breakfast and then get a flight from Savute Airstrip to Kasane Airport. Our ompany representative will meet you and transfer you by road to the lodge in Chobe. Chobe national park is 10,566 square km. It’s a home to about 440 species of birds and 15 different species of animals which live in the mopane woodland, mixed combretum, sandveld, floodplain, grasslands and riverine woodland. Chobe National Park is the second largest national park in Botswana. The park is divided into four distinctly different eco systems: Serondela with its lush plains and dense forests in the Chobe River area in the extreme north-east; the Savuti Marsh in the west; the Linyanti Swamps in the north-west the hot dry hinterland in between. There are various activities that will be done according to your choice. These activities include game cruises, game drives where you will spot animals like buffalo, zebras, lechwe, bushbuck, puku antelope, lions, Hyena, leopard, giraffe, kudu, roan and sable, impala, warthog, monkeys, baboons, jackal and waterbuck, bird watching where you will spot birds like African fish eagles, Sacred ibis, Egyptian Geese, Spur-winged Geese, pel’s Fishing Owl, carmine Bee-eaters, Fish Eagle, Martial Eagle, finfoot and the halfcollared kingfisher, Visiting the hot springs , cultural tours and much more. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to Kasane for your departure flight.
