DAY 1 – ARUSHA – LAKE NATRON AREA

Pick up in the morning from your hotel at (0830am) and depart for Lake Natron on the Great Rift Valley – Mt L’engai base. Arrive in the afternoon. Short tour of Lake Natron on foot Lake Natron is one of the major flamingo breeding areas. Evening free at the camp (kamakia campsite) or visit the nearby waterfalls for a swim in the river and also visit a Maasai family for a short cultural interaction.

Around 11:30pm. Transfer to the base of Mt. L’engai

DAY 2 – CLIMB MT OL’DOINYO L’ENGAI – 2896m – ARUSHA

Short after mid night, jeep transfer to the base of Mt Ol’ Doinyo L’Engai for the climb to peak of this live volcano, the climb takes about 3- 5 hours on a normal pace. The climb is strenuous and requires a physically fit person. Arrive at the Peak just before sunrise.

– L’engai volcanic crater looks like a field infested with red firelight insects just before sunrise. An amazing site to visit, Tour of the active crater after sunrise, then retracing your steps down to the base and transfer to the camp, L’engai climb is described as of medium difficulty and requires a physically fit person, no technical equipment required. After brunch and short rest, depart for Arusha arriving in the evening.

Trekking notes:

We recommend that you bring your own climbing gears as listed below; Warm sleeping bag (-10’C); Trekking boots (used and comfortable); a warm jacket; Thermo long underwear; Balaclava hat; several pairs of warm socks; windbreaker jacket; Rain gear, Getas, Light camera, Sunglasses and sun creams; Warm gloves, a walking stick and some medicines.

Health Care – You need to bring your own Medical care kit. In that will be all-important antibiotics, malaria tabs, sunburn cream, water purification tabs, Diamox, (Aspirins will do for mild headaches), On an occasion of Acute Mountain Sickness it is obligatory to climb down. Please be advised to consult your Doctor before the climb.

Camping – we use public camping sites set in the wilderness and supported with basic necessities only. We use light tents for camping and we provide all other camping gears like mattresses, chairs, tables etc.

One cook will be on the trek with you. He takes care of all camp chores. He will provide 3 meals per day – vegetarian or not. I Masai Guide will lead the trek. We’ll provide 1 special Land cruiser FWD.
