Nyerere National Park

Highlight

Nyerere National Park, situated in southeastern Tanzania, is the country’s largest national park, encompassing approximately 30,893 square kilometers.

Established in 2019, it was carved from the northern portion of the Selous Game Reserve to honor Tanzania’s first president, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.

The park is traversed by the Rufiji River, Tanzania’s longest river, which meanders through the landscape, creating a network of channels, lagoons, and lakes.

This diverse terrain supports a rich array of wildlife, including large populations of elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and African wild dogs.

The park’s remote location offers a pristine environment, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts seeking an authentic safari experience away from the more frequented northern parks.

The park’s vastness and relative seclusion provide a unique opportunity to observe wildlife in a less disturbed setting, contributing to its reputation as a premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
