Saadani National Park

Highlight

Saadani National Park, established in 2005, is Tanzania’s 13th national park, encompassing approximately 1,100 square kilometers. Uniquely positioned along the Indian Ocean, it is the only wildlife sanctuary in East Africa boasting a beachfront, where the bush meets the beach.

The park’s diverse ecosystems include coastal forests, mangroves, salt flats, and open grasslands. This variety supports a rich array of wildlife, such as lions, African bush elephants, Cape buffaloes, leopards, Masai giraffes, and hippopotamuses. Notably, Saadani is home to four of the “Big Five” game animals.

Visitors to Saadani can experience traditional game drives alongside river excursions on the Wami River, offering sightings of crocodiles, hippos, and diverse bird species. The park’s coastal location allows for unique beachside relaxation, making it a distinctive destination where wildlife viewing and beach leisure converge.

Despite its relative youth as a national park, Saadani offers a tranquil and less crowded alternative to more frequented Tanzanian parks, providing an intimate and varied safari experience.
