Zanzibar

Highlight

Zanzibar, an archipelago off Tanzania’s coast, is renowned for its pristine beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture. The main island, Unguja, features the historic Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its winding alleys, bustling markets, and significant landmarks like the Old Fort and People’s Palace. Beyond its historical allure, Zanzibar offers diverse attractions, including spice farms, where visitors can learn about the cultivation of cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

The island’s beaches, such as Nungwi and Kendwa, are celebrated for their white sands and clear waters, making them ideal for relaxation and water sports. The archipelago’s marine life is equally impressive, with opportunities for snorkeling and diving in the coral reefs of Pemba and Mafia islands. Wildlife enthusiasts can visit Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park to observe the endangered Zanzibar red colobus monkey.

Culinary experiences in Zanzibar are a fusion of African, Arab, and Indian influences, offering a unique gastronomic journey. The island’s warm climate, especially from January to February and June to October, makes it a year-round destination. Recent developments include a mandatory $44 insurance fee for tourists, effective September 1, 2024, covering health protection and emergencies.
