Ruaha National Park

Highlight

Ruaha National Park, established in 1964, is Tanzania’s largest national park, covering approximately 20,226 square kilometers. Located in the central to southern part of the country, it is about 130 kilometers west of Iringa. The park is named after the Great Ruaha River, which flows along its southeastern boundary, serving as a vital water source for the diverse wildlife that inhabits the area.

Ruaha’s landscape is characterized by a mix of savannahs, open grasslands, and dense miombo woodlands. The park’s terrain is varied, featuring rolling hills, riverine forests, and seasonal wetlands. The climate is typically hot and dry, with temperatures soaring during the day and cooler nights. The dry season, from May to October, is particularly favorable for wildlife viewing, as animals congregate around the remaining water sources.
